Audio alias frequency

Fundamental frequency (Hz): 10000 Harmonic number (integer): 3 Sample rate (Hz): 48000

Folded frequency (Hz)
18000.000000
Nyquist frequency (Hz)
24000.000000

For a real sinusoid, let r = (frequency × harmonic) modulo sample rate. Folded frequency = min(r, sample rate − r); Nyquist frequency = sample rate / 2. Enter fundamental 0–1,000,000 Hz, integer harmonic 1–64 and sample rate 8,000–384,000 Hz. Frequency and sample rate may contain fractions. Harmonic 1 is the fundamental. Results occupy 0 through Nyquist, including the boundary; a zero result represents a theoretical DC fold. This ideal frequency-location model does not predict harmonic amplitude, phase, audibility, anti-alias filtering, oversampling or nonlinear DSP behavior. A DC or Nyquist result does not guarantee a nonzero sampled signal: phase also matters. It cannot recover information lost to aliasing. Check the actual source spectrum and sampling/filter chain. Display uses six decimals without intermediate rounding.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tool generate harmonics or measure distortion?

No. You select one harmonic number; the tool only locates its theoretical sampled frequency. It does not generate, measure or estimate its amplitude.
