Luminance = lumens × gain / (π × area) in cd/m² (nits); foot-lamberts = lumens × gain × 0.09290304 / area. One square foot is exactly 0.09290304 m². Enter usable light output reaching the image in the chosen mode, not unverified LED-lumen claims; area is projected width × height in square metres, not diagonal length. Supported inputs: 1–1,000,000 lm, 0.1–10,000 m² and gain 0.1–3, including fractions. This uniform white-field, on-axis estimate uses a scalar screen gain. It does not predict ambient-light contrast, black level, HDR suitability, off-axis viewing, hotspots, colour brightness, lens losses not reflected in lumens or multi-projector blending. Confirm actual output and screen data; verify on site with a luminance meter. Display uses six decimals; calculations retain precision.

Frequently asked questions
Does doubling image area halve luminance?
Yes, with the same usable lumens and gain in this ideal model. 4000 lm over 10 m² at gain 1 gives about 127.323954 nits or 37.161216 fL. Doubling lumens doubles the estimate; it does not guarantee acceptable contrast in a lit venue.
