Enter the required rectangular footprint and the usable dimensions of one identical rectangular deck in metres. Required dimensions: 0.1–100 m; deck dimensions: 0.1–10 m, all in 0.001 m increments. Convert to integer millimetres, then columns=ceil(required width/deck width), rows=ceil(required depth/deck depth), total=columns×rows. Covered dimensions are columns×deck width and rows×deck depth; excess area is covered width×covered depth minus required width×required depth. For 8×5 m with 2×1 m decks, the grid is 4 columns by 5 rows, 20 decks, exactly 8×5 m and zero excess. Every deck keeps the entered orientation; width is across the stage and depth runs front to back. Swap deck dimensions manually to compare a uniformly rotated grid. This does not search mixed orientations or claim a globally minimal count. The footprint is extended to cover the target, so extra space is outside the requested rectangle and must be checked against the venue. No cutting, gaps, stairs, access lanes, edge protection or spare stock is included. These are inventory and footprint calculations only, not structural, load, support, height or installation approval. Confirm usable dimensions and the final assembly with the supplier.
Methodology
How it works
Frequently asked questions
Why are there more decks than an area-only estimate?
Rows and columns each round up to whole decks. Dividing target area by deck area ignores the shape and edge coverage, and can leave part of the required rectangle uncovered.
Can I rotate or mix deck types?
Swap width and depth to compare one uniform rotation. Mixed sizes, mixed rotations, irregular shapes, load ratings and support details require a separate supplier-approved plan.
