Enter the width and depth of a flat rectangular footprint in metres, each from 0.01 to 1000 m. The theoretical diagonal is √(width²+depth²), computed with a stable hypotenuse function. Perimeter=2×(width+depth); area=width×depth. Feet use the international definition 1 ft=0.3048 m, so diagonal in feet=diagonal in metres/0.3048. A 3×4 m rectangle has a 5 m diagonal, 16.404199 ft, 14 m perimeter and 12 m² area. Both diagonals of the intended rectangle have the same theoretical length. Swapping width and depth leaves all results unchanged; scaling both dimensions scales lengths linearly and area by the square. Use these targets in tape-measure layout notes alongside the required side lengths and right-angle checks. Matching diagonals alone does not prove that an arbitrary four-sided shape is rectangular. This tool does not accept measured corners, survey a venue, validate a built stage or specify an installation tolerance. All distances are horizontal plan dimensions: sloped surfaces, elevations, trim heights, access space and structural details are excluded. Six-decimal outputs are calculation precision, not a claim about measuring accuracy. Copy, download or print the dimensions and assumptions to hand off a clear rectangular footprint.

Frequently asked questions
Is a matching diagonal enough to declare a stage square?
No. Check the intended side lengths, opposite sides and right angles as well. Equal diagonals alone can occur in non-rectangular quadrilaterals.
How does this differ from the deck layout tool?
This gives a geometric target for a rectangle. The deck tool counts whole modules in a fixed-orientation grid and may extend beyond the required footprint.
