How it works
Stage directions always use the performer’s perspective while facing the audience. House directions use the audience’s perspective, so stage left equals house right and stage right equals house left. Upstage is away from the audience; downstage is toward the audience. The view switch mirrors the labels without changing the physical areas. Use the exported card in stage plots, rehearsal notes, classrooms, or venue advance documents. For ambiguous calls during a show, state the frame explicitly: “stage left, performer’s left.”
