Methodology

How it works

Enter the voltage selected for this estimate and copy rated and maximum input values from each device nameplate or current manufacturer documentation. For watt inputs, estimated current is watts divided by voltage and power factor. For amp inputs, the entered current is converted to estimated real power using voltage and power factor. Quantity is applied before totals. The result uses maximum values for current planning and then displays the user-selected headroom separately, so the assumption remains visible. Circuit rows are labels and review thresholds created by the user; they are not breaker recommendations. Exceeding a threshold is a prompt to review the assignment, not a claim that an installation is legal or illegal. Real demand can differ from nameplate maximums, and amplifiers, motors, switch-mode supplies, inrush current, duty cycle, phase loading, grounding, protection, cable length, connector ratings, and local rules require project-specific judgment. Use the exported table as an advance question: identify the equipment, stated assumptions, and expected load, then ask the venue or supplier to confirm voltage, available supplies, distribution, protection, and connection responsibility. A qualified person must design and approve the actual electrical system. The tool never applies a universal 80% rule and does not infer a country standard from location.

Does this choose a breaker or cable size?

No. It only estimates load from values you enter. A qualified electrical professional and the venue must determine circuits, protection, cabling, distribution, and compliance.

Is the review threshold an electrical code limit?

No. It is a user-defined planning threshold. The tool deliberately avoids presenting a universal percentage or current limit as law.

Why include power factor?

Power factor affects the current estimate when converting between watts and amps. Use a documented value when available and have the receiving team confirm uncertain assumptions.
