- Raise gain and unmute gradually while monitoring the signal.
Reverse the process before disconnecting: mute, reduce gain where appropriate, switch phantom off, wait briefly, then unplug. The goal is to avoid loud transients in the PA, monitor wedges, IEMs, and recording feeds.
On a shared festival patch, confirm whether phantom is supplied from FOH, monitors, or a splitter system. Do not assume both consoles should provide it.

Troubleshooting
No signal after enabling phantom
Check the device's required voltage, cable continuity, patch assignment, DI power selector, input gain, and whether phantom is enabled on the correct physical preamp. Digital console routing can make the visible channel different from the socket supplying power.
Hum, crackle, or intermittent audio
Disable and mute safely, then inspect the cable, connectors, stage box, split, and adapter. Phantom power can expose poor contacts because the audio path is also carrying DC. Do not keep reseating a live connector through an open PA.
A loud pop when connecting
